Positive FACE to host Town Hall meeting with Bill and Melinda Gates and the Delta Research Education Foundations

Positive FACE for Bellatrix Business Block

For the September 14, 2015 Bellatrix Business Block on The Andrea Kaye Show at 9:15 PM, Alicia I. Dearn interviews Gina Surgeon, Founder and Executive Director of San Diego-based nonprofit Positive FACE.

Positive FACE will host a Town Hall on September 19, 2015 as part of a 40-city simultaneous Town Hall on National Teacher Efficiency. The Town Hall is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Positive FACE will also host the Education Resource Fair that same day from 8 a.m. to noon in the Educational Cultural Complex – 4343 Oceanview Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92113. Both offer free admission.

The Town Hall will include discussions between concerned parents, teachers and the San Diego community regarding K-12 academic excellence. Results from the 40 town halls will be combined and used for a national study sponsored by the Delta Research and Education Foundation, in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and then published in the 2016 PHILLIS Scholarly Journal.

Positive FACE’s mission is to encourage positive life choices in fostered and adopted children. The acronym of Positive FACE means Positive Foster and Adopted Children Excel.

Positive FACE’s goal for its included children is to have at least 80 percent graduate from high school equipped with vocational and academic readiness.

Surgeon explains, “Positive FACE is the youngest of the 40 organizations hosting one of the national Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign Town Hall sessions. The core objectives of the [Town Hall] are greatly aligned with the mission and purpose of our organization. As community organizations like Positive FACE work with teachers and families, we can assure a greater level of self-sufficiency in all students and a more empowered national workforce.”

The Town Hall moderator is Dr. R. Vernon Moore, Executive Director, Office of Youth Advocacy. The panel includes San Diego educators such as Dr. Randolph Ward, Superintendent of Schools, San Diego County Office of Education, and Fabiola Bagula, Area 6 Superintendent, San Diego Unified School District.

Details regarding Positive FACE and the Town Hall will be discussed on The Andrea Kaye Show with contributor Alicia I. Dearn.
