SAN DIEGO, CA – October 17, 2015 the San Diego Chapter of international charity, Room to Read, hosts an Art & Fashion Show benefit to support the rebuilding of schools in Nepal after the devastating earthquake earlier this year.
The benefit brings local business and community leaders together. It boasts an impressive line up of local artists, such as Fashion Designers Alp-n-Rock, Norma Hill Designs, and IL-Studio Menswear, Live Art Creation by Ron Wickersham. Music is by Tower 7, Allegato Music and the Belly Up. The benefit is held at the home of Cindy Blumkin, owner of Art n Soul on 101 in Encinitas.
“Locals are empowered to join forces with the San Diego Chapter of Room to Read to create an inspirational, educational, and entertaining Art & Fashion Show Benefit to raise funds and awareness for Room to Read’s Global Literacy and Gender Equality in Education programs”, said Leora Langs, Room to Read San Diego Chapter Leader.
Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, their innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools in low-income countries during two time periods which are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. Room to Read has benefited 10 million children across 17,000 communities in Asia and Africa, and aims to reach 15 million children by 2020. They aim to reach 15 million children by 2020.
Room to Read in 2013 was rated as one of the top three educational NGO’s in the world by The Global Journal’s Top 100 Best NGOs and recognized as a “Top-Rated” nonprofit by Great Nonprofits. The organization also has nine consecutive Charity Navigator 4-Star Ratings – a recognition that less than 1% of their rated charities can claim.
